The house is located in a mature residential estate dating from the 1950s. The project reorganises the existing house around a new kitchen and dining space, replacing a lean-to conservatory at the rear with a more generous connection to the west-facing garden. Large openings and recessed double doors open the room to the garden, while a deep overhang provides shelter and creates a threshold between inside and outside.
A new two-storey extension to the side of the house accommodates utility and washroom spaces at ground floor, with a bedroom and study above. Its scale and material palette are carefully considered in relation to the existing house, using engineering brick, exposed hardwood fascias and sandstone paving to create a sense of continuity.
Internally, engineered oak flooring, a bespoke oak kitchen and timber joinery extend this material language, creating a warm and cohesive sequence of spaces that connects the original house with the new additions.
